A Major Set Back

July 20th, 2009 by nora

Just when we thought all was a go, our own country has presented us with a MAJOR set-back.   Our lawyer submitted our file for pre-approval for Johana’s VISA.  The Embassy(DHS) replied by asking for further documentation of her abandonment hearing.  Our lawyer requested the documentation from the Quetzaltenango Court.  The court replied that what they sent was all they had.  That all of the proceedings had been archived on an audio cd.  Our lawyer has tried to explain this to the US Embassy but they have replied saying that if we don’t supply the info they will deny our case.    We are heart sick.   This has taken so long.  My family has been appart for five almost six long months now.  John has spent half of his life here without his dad and has had ear infections, bronchitis, and RSV since we have been here.  We have expired all of our funds.  I have to return to work on August 6th or I will loose my job.  I am at a loss.   After complying with all the entire CNA process and the US Adoption processes; why has our own country done this to us?   We are desperatley in need of help.   Please pray for God’s interventio

    Hey Nora,

just remember that God is faithful and that since he has called you and Todd to adopt this precious little girl, then it will come to pass and there will be victory in the situation!!

Quick question about the letter: does it matter what state representative we send it to? Or do I need to send it someone specific? Let me know. Love ya’ll and I’m praying!

I will ask a friend or two if they know anyone at the Embassy…

You can have the audio CD translated by a sworn translator and present that to the USE. Your attorney should be able to do this within 3 days, with no charge to you. If he/she charges you for this, it shouldn’t be more than 100Q a page. You should only need the final judgement translated… a few pages. This should work for the USE. Email me if you need help. Good luck.

About

In June of 2007 Nora and I went on a mission trip to Guatemala. We spent five days working at an orphanage in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. We built bunkbeds, painted, and loved on the children. One particular little girl named Johanna found her way into hour hearts. This website is dedicated to Johanna and documents the process of adopting her. You can read more about how we met Johanna by clicking on the Meeting Johanna link. Thank you for visiting!
