Today, I left for the US Embassy at 5 AM to get there at 7 AM.  Traffic is extremely bad in the morning between Antigua and Guatemala.  Anyway, I met Andres (Attorney) there.  It was so crazy…we had to stand against a blue wall outside the US Embassy until a lady named Angela (Guatemalan) came out and gave us a number (number one b/c there wasn’t any other adoptions).  She walked out at 7:45 AM.  Then Andres and I had breakfast and during breakfast he asked me all about Jesus, God, and what I believe.  It was awesome and a great conversation.  At 9:00 AM, we went back to the Embassy for our appointment.  We were trying to submit the Court documents ( I went to the Court in Xela and got the documents last Wednesday) and the final documents (passport, birth certificate, adoption decree, etc).  So it was very interesting…when it was our turn we opened a door and spoke to the same girl through a plexi-glass window through a speaker and slid the documents to her.  She was kind, but would not take all our documents…simply, following a strict process.  I did tell her our story, but all she said was the oldest cases are worked on first…which ours is an older case at this point.  I also asked if I could speak to 2 ladies that work for DHS and she said they are busy and I can’t tell you what official is going to work on your case.  So we said thank you and good bye.  Andres felt good about her response and thought we should hear if we are pre-approved (meaning they accept the court documents) in 48 hours.  Once approved, we submit the final docs and then we get a Visa Appointment.  Andres felt it would be another week.  A week is better than a month.  : )

We also met a lady named Ruth who has been living in Antigua for 2 years trying to adopt a little boy who is now 2.  She is from Irving and is going home for 2 weeks and has offered to let us stay at her apartment free of charge.  So we thank God and will move there Friday.  This makes move number 9 for our little Family.

Please pray the US Embassy Pre-Approves our case.

Thank you.

Nore, Below is an e-mail that I sent Todd. I haven’t heard from him so I thought I would post it here.

    Todd,

After reading your blog last week I sent it to a friend on mine who has a lot of contacts that are in office. Dolly Gonzales went to Marcus and SFA with me. She has worked with Rick Perry and now does fundraising for John Cornyn. I sent her your blog and below is her response. I don’t know if you still need her help or this contact, but here it is if you need it. I am praying for you and your family.

The story of Todd and his family is sad. We do have someone in our office who handles alot of these kinds of cases. All these requests go through our Dallas office. Linda Bazzaco is our Case Work Director there, she has a team of people who work on these sorts of things and I have always heard rave reviews from anyone who I have referred to her staff. Linda’s number is 972-239-1310.
If you will let me know if Todd or someone else is going to contact Linda about this matter and about when they will be in touch I would be happy to give Linda a heads up this case is headed her way, it never hurts to let her know it is someone I referred to them.
    I hope this helps.
Let me know and stay in touch!
    Love-
    Dolly

Hi Nora. I think of you and your family and pray for you every day. We miss you so here and want so badly for this to come to closure for you. I got a nice letter from Congressman Burgess’ office and it does sound like you are making progress. I hope it is just a couple more weeks. It would be great to have you back home!!
I think our twins will be here in the next couple of weeks too so we’ll have to get together for our expanded families to visit! Much love,
    Tamra Butler

About

In June of 2007 Nora and I went on a mission trip to Guatemala. We spent five days working at an orphanage in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. We built bunkbeds, painted, and loved on the children. One particular little girl named Johanna found her way into hour hearts. This website is dedicated to Johanna and documents the process of adopting her. You can read more about how we met Johanna by clicking on the Meeting Johanna link. Thank you for visiting!
