Embassy Update

August 11th, 2009 by nora

Today, all 4 us (My Mom, Johana, John, and I) went to the Embassy to try and talk to someone in DHS.  On the ride to Guatemala City from Antigua, John got sick and threw-up all over my Mom.  So we pulled over in incredible traffic and changed clothes.  My good friend Kailah was driving us.  So we got cleaned up at Mc Donald’s…while in the bathroom there was a lady cleaning her pink dress that she had spilled something on and then it looked like someone had cut their hair in the sink.  You know it is never dull in Guatemala or should I say Mc Donald’s.

Anyway, we get to the Embassy and they let all 4 of us in.  I had concern they wouldn’t let Johana in because she isn’t a US citizen.  So after having our bags searched twice we get in line behind door number 10…when it is our turn.  I say hi to Angela who is behind the plexi glass window and tell her I need to speak to Kenya in DHS.  Angela than precedes to tell me I don’t have a number and will need to come back tomorrow.  So I said please, I need to speak to her and we will wait.  She agrees to call her, but says I bet she will ask you to come back tomorrow since you don’t have a number.  So we go outside to the lobby which is completely full with Guatemalans getting Visas to come to the US.  So, I just start praying for the Lord to open doors and touch hearts.  I also called our good friend who works at the Embassy while my Mom took care of Johana and John.  And guess what!  Over the speaker we hear Zemler Family…and we get up and go to door number 10…Angela tells us Kenya will talk to us!  Praise the Lord!  We go back out to the lobby and I start praying again…please Lord…please bless Kenya…please give me the right words.  Once again we are called…all 4 us go into a room that is the size of a closet and speak with Kenya through the plexi-glass window.  She told us the hold up was the audio cd and the court papers did not give them what they wanted.  Kenya said they would review the cd today and tomorrow.  Then we would hear from them.  She said we could have 2 weeks to a month before we go home.

We are praying for the people at the DHS office.  Praying we made a connection and the Lord would place our Family on their hearts all day long.  Lord, please grant us Johana’s Visa and reconcile our Family.  Please.

Thank you for keeping up with us.

About

In June of 2007 Nora and I went on a mission trip to Guatemala. We spent five days working at an orphanage in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. We built bunkbeds, painted, and loved on the children. One particular little girl named Johanna found her way into hour hearts. This website is dedicated to Johanna and documents the process of adopting her. You can read more about how we met Johanna by clicking on the Meeting Johanna link. Thank you for visiting!
