Another Request from the Embassy

August 15th, 2009 by nora

On Thursday, we got another email requesting more information from DHS.  It was more than heart breaking for us to get this information.  DHS has asked for the following information:  1)  Provide a literal transcript of the CD (listed in number 6 of the first part of this message) accompanied by a certified English translation.  If you don’t have a copy of the CD, you or your Guatemalan Attorney of Record or his/her designated representative may come to the Public Adoption’s Window 10 of USCIS Guatemala City in order to get a copy of the CD.2)  Request the Court of First Instance of Childhood and Adolescence and Adolescents in Conflict with the Criminal Law of the city of Quetzaltenango to provide you with evidence (in the form of an original certificate) The CD is expensive to have translated, but we will do it.  Now, the other request is more difficult.  The Embassy’s request for documentation that the birth mother was properly notified, flies in the face of the Guatemalan judicial process; implying they have not properly followed international law regarding adoption procedure.   On Thursday, our attorney called the court and this is exactly how they felt.  We were told they have given more to us than any other case and would not give us anything else.  The court is in complete disagreement with the requested information.  On Monday, at 8:00 AM Andres and I meet with DHS at the US Embassy to discuss the Guatemalan and US Laws.  Please pray for this meeting.  It is very important.  We could be here in Guatemala a long time if things don’t go well.Thank you.

About

In June of 2007 Nora and I went on a mission trip to Guatemala. We spent five days working at an orphanage in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. We built bunkbeds, painted, and loved on the children. One particular little girl named Johanna found her way into hour hearts. This website is dedicated to Johanna and documents the process of adopting her. You can read more about how we met Johanna by clicking on the Meeting Johanna link. Thank you for visiting!
